Day 156, January 12th, 2010
We got up in the morning hoping we would be able to pick up the radio before noon. Unfortunately, we weren't able to pick it up until about 3:00 p.m. However, the day was spent usefully doing odd jobs. The knotmeter had got gummed up in Stuart so John took the thro- hull out and cleaned the little wheel of barnacles. Worked fine after that. He also took the windlass apart, as it had been slipping again, and fixed that. I continued knitting and did prepare the evening meal!
Once we got back to the boat, John installed the new radio and registered the MMSI distress number into the unit. (I should explain a little perhaps - our VHF radio has a special feature where you enter this specific number for your boat and then, if you press the red button when you're in trouble, it will send a distress signal to the Coast Guard giving your location.) We thought - no big deal!!!!
We spent a quiet evening, glad to be able to move on in the morningi to Venetian Causeway.
