Lighthouse Landing, KY

Day 60, October 1st, 2009

No rest for the wicked! Started work at 7:45 preparing for stepping the mast. Around 10:00 we moved around to the gin pole (a crane of sorts, used to lift masts into position). We did a lot of it but they insisted on their 2 guys working the crane and supervising the stepping. Then we moved the boat back to the slip where we spent the rest of the day finishing the rigging and putting the sails back on. So good to see her back as a sailboat! It was a good day working hard but chatting off and on with "Joe" a local. A real nice fella but I was surprised when he told me that he couldn't stand this "President of ours. I'm a Bush man". He thinks Mr. Obama does nothing but spend money and believes the health care system should remain just as it is. Oh well - it takes all kinds!!!

We finally finished our chores about 4:00, just in time to go for a shower and walk up to "Patti's" for supper. Interesting place, not just a restaurant but gift shops, outdoor wedding venue, children's playground and mini golf all set in beautiful gardens! Had a delicious supper - John had the 2" pork chop and I had the 1"!! The young server, named Sarah, took us by surprise when she asked us what we would like to drink. When I ordered a marguerita she replied "Oh, I'm sorry but this is a dry county!!" Lemonade was a good substitute! I didn't know there was such a thing as a dry county!! Anyway we really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere and listening to the people with their Kentucky accent.

Walking back to the boat there were big flashes of sheet lightening and rumbles of thunder. Fortunately we got back in good time before the rain came, as I'd left the front hatch wide open.
Just to let you know that this photo was actually taken the previous evening. Paul and Sue and John and I bought a "Mile High Lemon Pie" at Patti's and brought it home to share. It actually turned out to be a Mile High Meringue Pie with a Little Bit of Lemon!!! Still good though!
