Day 55, September 26th, 2009
We set off from Hoppies at 8:00 and travelled all day. We were passed by the 8 guys in the Lewis boat. Just as I was going to get a great shot of them the batteries in the camera went dead and by the time I could get new ones in my great shot had gone by and all I could get was this shot above! Anyway, we chugged along with the current, passing tow boats with barges, sometimes pushing as many as 30 at one time. Also trying to avoid debris and old logs floating down the river. We missed most but on occasion there would be a big thump when we went over another - not a comfortable feeling! Tied up for the night on a tributary, the Kaskaskia River at the lock there on the wall. The "Ellie Jane" had arrived before us and were able to help with lines and then Twice 's Nice pulled in behind us.
You can see the beautiful Ellie Jane above. John and Sharon are from Milwaukee but bought the boat in Florida last February. They kindly invited us all on for sundowners and snacks in the afternoon and we had a lovely visit together. What a beautiful boat!!! The comforts of home, with full size frig (and ice maker!) and laundry facilities!!! Their galley was pretty much the same as in our condo!!! 2 bedrooms and 2 almost full size bathrooms. The engine room you can walk around and even a basement for storage!!!!!!! Wow!
