Day 44, September 15th, 2009
Continued down the river today from Ottawa, ending up at a pretty anchorage by Sheehan Island. Tall cliffs on one side with a walkway along the top that we couldn't reach. It was so warm we wanted to swim but the water was pretty grubby. We saw our first carp jumping out of the water as a pontoon boat stirred them up. The guys on the boat were whooping it up and laughing as these silly fish jumped three feet into the air!!! I went exploring in the dinghy, did get startled once when a carp jumped beside me! "Starved Rock" marina and yacht club were quite close. Nobody seemed quite clear on how this area got its name but apparently it had something to do with two Indian tribes that starved each other out!???
