Calumet River

Day 40, September 11th, 2009
Left Crowley's at 9:00 a.m. heading south on the waterway. Very industrial all around us but we were happy to be moving. Shortly around 11:00 John's phone rang and it was the lady from the Great Looper Association. She informed us that the Fish Barrier was now open to pleasure boats and we could traverse the barrier in the morning after 7:00 a.m. on our own and the towing company would refund our $495.00. Hooray!!!! We were so happy to at last have a break!!!! A bit of a problem arose as to where to spend the night but that got solved too. Tied up against the wall on the Old Calumet River. Took a bit of bushwhacking to tie the boat to trees - bit difficult as the trees were buried amongst the brambles!!!! Bloody scratches later we barbecued steak for supper!
