Getting Excited

We are starting to get excited about the voyage coming up this summer. Things are moving along in the preparations even though it is only the third week in March. Periwinkle II, our Mirage 32, is coming home to Collingwood from Parry Sound the beginning of April after an extensive refit to it's interior. Truth to be told, she sank at the dock at the end of last August because of a hose failure. Thanks to our insurance company, Periwinkle now has a refurbished interior and new electronics excetera.
Our plan for the trip is to do the Great Loop. Leaving the first week of August, we'll travel to Chicago, along the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennesee, and Tombigbee rivers to Mobile Alabama. Next will be the west coast of Florida and the Keys. After the Keys as well as the Dry Tortugas, we'll cross to the Bahamas. We then plan to return to Florida, travel north up the Intercoastal Waterway and the Atlantic to New York City, up the Hudson River, through Lake Champlain to the St Lawrence River. Once we are back in Canada, we'll go up the Ottawa River to Ottawa spend some time with our son, Graham, then down the Rideau Canal to Kingston on Lake Ontario. PHEW!! After all that, we haven't decided on a route back to Georgian Bay. The trip is planned to last 12 month. All plans are made in Jello.
As we mention in the side panel, this blog site will act as our ship's log. I hope you will enjoy sharing our adventure.
